Hi Matt,
I’m building a dining table made of cherry. The thickest cherry I found at the lumber yard was 2″ and I need 4″ wide legs. Would it be a good idea to glue two 2″ boards face grain to face grain to make the legs?
Thanks for you help.

Hi Renato,
It's perfectly acceptable to glue up the 4-in. thick leg from two pieces of stock. The only downside is the seam that will run down the length of the leg where the two pieces meet.
If you do a good job matching the grain and color of the two pieces the seam can be made to look not so obvious. Spend a lot of time at the lumber yard picking out boards that are similar in color and grain. You want to avoid making a leg from contrasting boards, such as a piece with a lot of sap wood matched with another piece that's all heartwood.
