I have a dining room table that we are honestly quite rough on. I am looking into refinishing it myself and I need advice on what would be best to use to finish it. I really want something hardy and waterproof. I don’t mind if it’s shiny, I just want durable. Thanks in advance.

Based on my limited knowledge and experience, I would say that of the products available for the average user, polyurethane will be the easiest to use and most durable. I understand that the pros and more experienced sometimes use a 2 part product that has a catalyst in it. I think it might be for spray application only. I'm sure someone from that camp will chime in.
The toughest finishes are spray only. If you are brushing, polyurethane is probably the most durable. Oil-based poly is usually harder than water-based.
