Anyone have experience with buying wooden table slides from B Walter (Walter of Wabash) or Van Dyke Restorers?
I am considering buying a set from one or the other but there is a significant price difference and I am wondering why? (>$100 difference). Any insights? both can expand to the same opening size (50″) and are both hardwood (unspecified species, likely Maple from the photos).
A not so unrelated complaint. I just want to add that this is a replacement set of slides. I bought a pair from Matthew Burak in Vt about 11 months ago, when I began gathering the materials for the table project. When I finally got around to needing to install them I noticed that they “rock” end to end. I think it is due to poor workmanship; they of course say it is warpage and is my fault and will not replace them. So the lesson learned is to be careful when you buy parts in advance of your need if the return policy of the vendor will expire before you use them. Inspect all parts very carefully when they arrive ( I opened them but put them in my woodrack)

jeffS ,
Wabash is a quality table slide, and has been around a long time . I have used them before . Screwing the slides on under that table top is always scary .
good luck dusty
Jeff,
Back in the stone age, when I worked at Va Craftsmen (in the 70's) they used Walter of Wabash slides. They had a rack and pinion system for equalising the extension from both ends. Nice to keep a 5th leg centered, if you fasten it to the middle slide.
Can't speak to vanDykes slides, never used them.

Ray
Why not just make them.. If you have a router table it is VERY easy to do.. Use Maple or Hickory...
100 bucks can get ya' a bit O' wood.. Even have some leftovers for other projects...
