Is it necessary to put leg braces on a dining extension table. Legs are about 2 1/8 square, with a mortise 3″ x 5/8″ x depth of 1″ and the aprons 7/8″ x 4″ with the tenon. Table, without the two 12″ leafs is 42″ x 48″

Braces?
Are you thinking about diagonal pieces that are secured across the corner (under the table), with metal lags that go from them into the leg?
If so, then no -- those types of braces are used when aprons have no tennons, and legs have no mortises.
Support our Troops. Bring them home. Now. And pray that at least some of the buildings in the green zone have flat roofs, with a stairway.
Yes, I was referring to the diagonal braces - - and thanks for your comments.
