the taunton press book on tables by Carlton Graves is a good idea source- that is where I started when I made a 120" expansion dining room table. It has two 22 inch leaves so closes to 86" when they are not in place.
Thanks, I will check out the book.
Guitar,
The most compact table design I've seen/built is an extension type, with drop leaves. It's possible to make a table that with drop leaves up and fully extended will be 8-10' long, and might be as short as 20" closed and leaves down. Now, extension slides short enough to fit between aprons 18" apart, and extending 5 or 6' have to be shop made, and they will sag when fully extended, requiring a center leg (can be removeable). And very broad drop leaves are best supported by add'l swinging legs. But, it can be done.
