just got a brand new Delta 6 x 48 sanding station with a 12 inch sanding disc –the metal disc seemed dry and clean but I cleaned it off with some alcohol ,removed the paper from the sticky back of the new sanding disc and when I applied the disc , it would not stick at all- what would you suggest ?

The only thing that I can think of is the aluminum disk was cold. Is your shop heated?Try running the sander and rubbing a scrap of wood on it for 20 seconds or so. Then see if the psa sticks. Could be the glue on the paper, you can still use it if you put a thin coating of sanding wheel cement on the disk. When it comes time to change the paper, heat the disc by running scrap on it, then remove the paper.

I use rubber cement.
Acetone (fingernail polish remover) works better for PSA's than alcohol.
