Hi,
I have a homemade breadboard that I made for my wife. Its made of cherry, maple and birch.
A couple of years ago our garbage disposal backed up and spilled the dirty water all over the base cabinet where this board was stored. It was drenched. I had rinsed it off, but its sat somewhat stained in my workshop for a few years till I got “around to it”.
I just recently had its surfaces sanded and finally did the edges. I was about to treat it with mineral oil but wondered if I should do something to disinfect it first.
Any ideas about this and how it should be done?
thank you,

Just wash it well in bleach(luandry)

Bleach
10%bleach in 90% water works well.
cleaner
I would be tempted to use denatured alcohol. It won't remove any color, little if any grain raising, dry quickly and do a good job to boot.
THanks everyone!
