Hi fellow Taunton folks! I hang out in Cook’s Talk and also run a little store on Ebay.
Anyone with Windows Vista or Win2k or below want a free Vintage Woodturning Patterns Ebook? 🙂
My fiance and I have been selling digital downloads for a month or so and it appears that our menu creation program won’t work with Vista. We have a new one and I built a new menu and compiled the program, but we only have XP, I need it tested on other Platforms.
I thought I’d try to entice someone here into testing it for me. Few people would enjoy downloading Parasitology, but you never know if you’ll find a pattern you like in this one :))
We tested it, but we both have XP, it works fine on that. It won’t work on Mac, I’m afraid. If anyone runs any version of Linux with a Windows clone, it will work on that as well, I hope 🙂
So anyone who would be kind enough to test this for me, please email me and I’ll send you a link to the download. It’s a self-extracting file, it’s about 8.5 megs in size and it puts an icon on your desktop and also puts a folder into your program files, but also has a very fast uninstall program. You can dump it in 15 seconds if you want, or keep it if you like the patterns!
I am not trying to sell this to anyone, there will be no charge for downloading the program and I promise, it’s virus-free 🙂
I forgot to mention that you’ll need to have Acrobat Reader 6 or above, but if you have Vista, you already do 🙂
TIA
Deanna

ub, had it, dumped it as I got upgrades for days--weeks from everything that I reached out to and I am far(very far) from your high tech player. Any thing that worked, only worked 60 to 85% after the upgrades. I fell back to XP PRO. Works fine. Paddy
That's what I've heard about it, Paddy. Got a friend who's going to build a new computer for me. He's well versed in the tech aspects. Everything he's seen and heard about Vista is not really good. Too many bugs and glitches right now, will take a while to work all those out. He said I'd be better off with XP right now. Seems like Microsoft rushed it a little too quickly.

Creek:"Seems like Microsoft rushed it a little too quickly"ROFL and LMAO!It took them seven years to develop Vista – a very pale version of the original Longhorn. This will sound odd, but I don't think of Microsoft as a software company; they pretty much buy everything, including their original operating system. Brilliant business people though.Regards,Hastings
Hey
Yes I have Vista 32bit and I can test it for you. I know what is this.
So if you still want someone to test it, write to me at: [email protected] and I,ll do it for you.
Good luck
I have MS Vista Ultimate (Not sure if the different versions make any difference)
'Flakey' for some things as in I cannot open a Acrobat Reader file from Fine Woodworking. I have to open it on a separate form.
I will not 'steal' your work and will erase the file when finished if you want.
I do have some questions though. Exactly what do you want tested?
My time is limited because I babysit two small girls (my granddaughters) and I need sleep also! What turn-around time do you expect?
Thank you everyone! Another member emailed me last night and tested it for me, I had subscribed to this thread, but didn't realize that Taunton only sends emails for responses once a day, at least I just got it.
You're all terrific, thank you for taking the time to answer me..and yes, it worked!
