I’m making a chest of drawers and I am using domino joinery to attach the runners to the stretchers. My question is, would it be better to use two 6 x 40 mm tenons or one 10 x 50 mm tenon or is it six of one, half a dozen of the other. The runners are 2″ wide and 13.5″ long and will be glued only to the front stretcher. The side runners also fit into a 1/8″ deep dado.

dominoes
I'm not a Domino Dude, Jim, but I'd think the two vs. one tenon question would depend on the dimensions of the pieces and the balance between tenon size (strength) and that of the connecting pieces. One larger tenon would generally be stronger than smaller ones, but not if the larger tenon eats up too much material in the connected pieces, making them weaker.

Thanks Ralph; I kind of thought one larger one would be stronger, but actually I was just spending too much time thinking about it. Now I'll just do it. Thanks again.

Thinking before doing is a good thing. But, I sometimes get caught in the trap of thinking too much about whether to think about thinking. Or, at least I thought I thought about that. I'm no longer sure. ;-)
