I’m building doors out of really nice vertical grain doug fir, 3-1/2″ rails and stiles. They are flat panel square sticking with 1/4″ plywood panel. I want to make them pseuodo inset, meaning that I don’t have face frames, but I will run trim down the sides that is flush with the doors and I would use blum inset hinges. I will coat the doors with water-based poly. Do you think that this will work ok or should I expect a problem due to shrinkage in terms of the reveal? thx

it was nearlly impossible to post this question because the spam filter kept kicking in - wow!
shrinkage
Even a true flush inset application has the same seasonal movement , so there really is no difference .
Sure the wider the stile the more movement is possible .
You may need to build out your hinge brackets so they are flush with the opening .
Depending on the environment on a split pair of doors you will have 14" of wood , how much do you think that width can move , I say 1/4" may be conservative .
good luck dusty
