I would like to hear pros and cons on the Leigh and the Katie. And now the new one which is the AKADA. I need to purchase one and would like to hear from some of you that have experience with them. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
The AKEDA is just started shipping. Woodcraft has the exclusive for one year and they are really touting it. Joe

My vote would definatly be for the Leigh! I've had mine for the last 3 years and love it! Dead on accuracy and repeatability and probably the best written manual in the entire industry. You won't ne sorry!

I've got the leigh jig and i'm happy with it. there is a learning curve at first, and you have to understand the principles behind the jig in order for it to work. it shouldn't take any more than a day of reading and testing out the jig to figure it out though, and after you understand it you'll realise that it's miles ahead of other jigs. I've only seen 1 ad for the akeda, and it looks cool, but i've got no idea how it even works and so i can't comment on it. i'd take a look at it as well, but as far as the dovetail jigs on the market today go i think that the leigh comes out on top.
What's the trick to setting the correct depth for blind dovetails? I know all about trial and error and that's a pain in the ####. Sometimes trails go on for days, just kidding more like 15 to 37 minutes. The only other solution that has come to mind is setting a router with correct bit depth and locking it away.
Thanks - MSD
MSD, what i did was make a test peice, and through trial and error got a perfect fit, i know keep that peice next to my jig and use it to set the bit depth, just clamp it in the jig and be careful to get the bit just touching the bottom of the pin board. as long as you are using the same bit you shouldn't have any more problems.
Andrew,
That is a great idea, thanks for the tip. Now if they only made a dovetail bit with a bearing so I wouldn't need the collar....the plunge router is a pain with dovetailing.

Just bought a Keller jig that came with carbide bits that have the bearing on-board. I know they sell separate smaller bits. They may sell the standard bits separately also. I don't know if they would be compatible with Leight Jig as I know little about it. I don't see why not, though.

Sarge,
Gee, thanks for remembering that....see, your not that old....lol. BG

Keller has a web-site. If you don't have a local WW source that deals Keller, call Highland Hardware here in Atlanta and ask for tech support. 800-241-6748 I don't think the bits are in the cat. The small one's are. They have a master Keller cat I'm sure. If I get a chance (won't be today) I will also call as I'm curious if they sell the standards individually.

Try this site.
You will not find a more accurate way to make joints.
