Hello,
I have built a cbainet out of Honudran Mahognay and have dovetailed all four corners. There are of course some chips and gaps in some of the dovetail joints. I am looking for a way to fill the very tiny gaps in the joints any help you can offer would be very much appreciated.
Are there any solutions such as glue with wood shavings etc.
I await your reply and any help you can offer.
Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions
Sincerely
Benny Collins

I've got to jump in here because there are so many cools ways to fill cracks in dovetails, and I'm curious as to what Gary and others will come up with.
My latest 'trick' is to make a little mound of sanding dust from the same wood as the project, put a few drops of 1-lb.-cut, dewaxed shellac into the mound, stir it into a paste, and rub the paste into the cracks. Immediately sand the area with 220-grit paper. Make a fresh mixture of paste, and repeat the process (immediately). You might have to do this three or four times before the reapir is level with the surrounding wood. But because shellac dries so fast, you should be able to fill the cracks in one five-minute bench session. Initially the cracks will look darker than the surrounding wood, but when you apply your finish they will blend right in.
Good luck,

Benny,
Congrats on the cabinet making. For small gaps in joints I use a mix of 5 minute epoxy and sawdust from the wood of my project. For larger holes, it's easy to make up some slivers of wood, again use wood from your project, and taper them in one or two directions like a wedge. Then add a drop of yellow glue into the gap and tap in the wedge, gently. When the glue dries, trim off the filler and you'll be amazed at how well it blends in. Good luck. Gary
