Hi,
Have a question concerning Dowelled mitres. I’d like to know which method is best.
After cutting the mitres is it best to place the parts together and then drill the holes for the dowels. Or is it better to glue and assemble the parts 1st and then drill the dowel holes after the glue is dry?
If one of my mitred boards measures 3/4″thick X 2″wide…how deep should I drill the holes for the dowels?
Think that about covers it for now. 🙂

hello again, I forgot to mention that I am making pegged dowel joints not blind dowel joints... The pegged dowel joints are the fastest to make and they don't require a special dowelling jig.

Are you mating the pieces like in a box or like in a picture frame?

Hi Dennis,
I am mating the two pieces like in a picture frame. But if I were mating two pieces........let's say connecting a rail to a stile how deep would I have to drill the holes for the dowel pegs? The width of the stile plus at least 3/4??????
For ligtweight furniture. eg. small coffee table made from soft pine... Would a glued dowel joint be strong enough to support the table? or would you use a plate/biscuit joint?
