Downdrafter – Rousseau Dust Collector
I’m considering getting a dust collector shown as a “Downdrafter” in the Eagle catalog. I think it’s made by Rousseau and comes with either a stand or a railed system that moves with a sliding miter box. Have any of you had any experience with it? My slider is mounted on Norm’s chop saw station and I have an intake for my dust collection system right under the saw. I’m thinking that the railed mounting might be made to work well. Thanks for any comments. Don

Don,
I went to the Web page and looked at the device you are talking about. It looks as if it works well. I also watched the video. I can't see anything wrong with it except the fact that it costs $159.
I have not tried to make one like it but I have to believe that you could make something like this pretty easy. The downdraft cabinets that are out there for router tables also work very well. I made a router downdraft "cabinet" out of a rubber kitchen garbage can and a 4" PVC drain fixture. A fixed the top of the can to the bottom of my router table with glue and screws. It works very well. I have to believe some thing like that can be done for a miter saw.
Perhaps it was the years of having no money to buy the neato accessories that made me this way. Perhaps now it is my mortgage that makes me this way.

Thanks, I'm considering trying to make something like it. Don
I built my own several years ago. Works great.

Thanks, it looks good. Guess I'll try it. Don
I would recommend a empty kitty litter plastic bucket. I use one to catch chips from my portable router table. Just cut a hole and screwed it to the underside.Looks silly but it works and it was free after the cats no longer needed it.
Thanks for the photos!!!
I just received a SCMS for Christmas. Also a Makita LS 1013. I have been debating how to setup a new saw station. LOTS of good ideas from your pics!!
I love the idea of storage under the saw. I had imagined some sort of two part system for the dust collection, and now I see it already done!!
I have the saw in my basement using it to finish the trim work. It was quickly apparent that the dust bag only got a small portion of the dust it makes. It sure beats the miterbox and hand saw I have been using.
Gracias!!
