Dramatic increase in price for Yorkcraft
I’ve been looking at getting the Yorkcraft 12″ jointer this spring and checked their website. The price rose $1,000 for the machine. WOW!!! The Grizzly is the same price for now. I hope the price stays. Is this going to be the trend for all machines?

tc,
I also am looking at the Yorkcraft 12". Their website lists a price of 2500 if I remember correctly. I sent them an email and they told me their 12" jointer is on sale for 1495. I recently looked at the 12" Shop Fox and I am impressed by it. It is currently selling for 1449. The interesting part of it is, that the Bridgewood, Yorkcraft, Delta, Shop Fox jointers all come out of the same factory in China. I thought that to be very interesting. I am on the fence whether to buy an 8" or a 12", have you decided the pro's and con's?
Jeff
Go with the 12" if you have room. I've worked with both. The reason I chose the 12" is that I like to work with wider wood. It will depend on the work you do also. Do you use plywood for wider pieces? Do you make alot of cabinets vs. furniture?
I'm fortunate to have a great place to buy rough sawn wood. I've had them rough dimension a wide board there only to find that it equalized at home. I had to cut it down to size to flatten it again. Most out there might disagree, but once you use a 12" jointer for awhile you'll never will want to go back.

I agree. It seems awfully luxurious to be able to pick out any board you want, and not having to worry about it being too wide for your equipment to mill.
what web sites did you find these prices? i like the 12 inch grizzly and the yorkcraft. going to buy one my self. wilke has the yorkie priced at 3150.00! grizzly has there new parrelogram 12 inch listed for 1599.00 plus shipping(1835.00 total). thanks clay
Mt,
Your may want to forget about the Yorkcraft and Wilke and take a look at the 12" Shop Fox. I did yesterday and I am sold. I will be going with the 12" shop fox. Price is $1449.00 from a local dealer. It has parrelegram (sorry can't spell) table and is well built. The 12" comes out of the same factory as the delta, wilke, grizzly and Yorkcraft.
I don't know where you are, but I can see what price I can get if we buy 2 together. Maybe a bigger discount. Let me know, I can get you in touch with the local dealer.
Jeff
thanks jeff, live in san diego. looking for dealer now totryand a save a bit of that shipping. best price so far has only been 1599.00 with 200.00 shipping.any ideas?thanks clay
Clay,
Do you want me to contact my local dealer and see what they could do?
Jeff
sure jeff thanks my zip is 92040 lakeside calif. iwould be picking it up at a trucking station that could forklift it on my truck. thanks clay
Clay,
I talked to my local dealer yesterday. Shop Fox will not let them drop ship equipment. You are going to have to find a dealer in your area. BUT, I did find out that when a dealer orders $2000 worth of gear from Shop Fox, it qualifies for free freight. So if you order the 12" from you local dealer, ask him to make sure he orders $2000 worth to get free freight. ALSO, my local dealer gave me a cash price of $1459 for the 12". By far the best price I have seen. Hope this helps.
12" on the way............I'm going deep, hit me with the bomb....no turning back now!
Jeff
My local Shopfox (Re-Tool in Athens, Ga.good folks!) wants $1925 with tax, but will deliver and set in on a mobile base if you can find or build one suitable for a 875 lb. machine. Just over 1000 lbs. is the shipping weight.
BTW.. that puppy with parallelogram beds comes assembled on the crate as one piece opposed to 8" that will come with the table in a separate box for those such as me that are a one-man show.
I've personally decided to go with the 8" as I have never seen a piece of 12" stock I couldn't handle with a 6" jointer, nor a 16" piece I couldn't handle with a 8". I have hand planes and if it came down to nitty gritty I could handle them without a jointer period, so... the extra $$ for me means an up-grade to a 12" SCMS after I sell my 10".
Just my personal choice as I still think given you have the mill, I would go with 12" if I were in your shoes.

If the dollar keeps dropping in value, yes, it will be happening more.
Now that they quit publishing the M3 we can't even tell how far or how fast it's dropping.------------------------------------

Dear TC,
Yup, I saw that as well. they QUOTED me a price with shipping on January 9, 2007 as follows:
12" Yorkcraft Jointer, shipped to CT with the "Byrd" cutterhead ($985.00) installed:
Total with shipping $2594.00
Now, not a month later they are listing it for about that much! I have emailed them, but I haven't received a response. Pretty disappointing. It looked like Wilke was going to give Grizzly some competition....... I guess not.
Best,
John
