My son would like to have a trestle dining table with a draw leaf top. My problem is that I am not quiet clear on how best to make the mechanism for the draw leaf. Does anyone know where I can get information; i.e., detail plans or publications on this design?
Thanks

The Technique (Dictionary in the US) of Furniture Making, Ernest Joyce. Available at good woodworking shops and online booksellers too.
For $50 I would be willing to print and send detailed drawings of a draw leaf table. Joyce is cheaper, and contains a mass of additional in depth information on furniture making topics that you certainly wouldn't get from my working drawings of a single piece, ha, ha. Slainte.

Thanks for your help on a source of information on furniture making that hopefully will answer some of my questions on the design of the draw leaf table. If I don't get what I am looking for form the book, I will contact you for the drawings.
As a point of interest, I live about 100 miles west of Houston and I would like very much to come by your shop for a visit. I am a self taught amature furniture builder, doing custom work for my four children.
Thanks again for your help, and I did enjoy your web site.
8ball, I do believe that Joyce will answer your specific question. He has quite a nice section on draw leaf table types, and from the information provided, you should be able to design your own table.
If you do have trouble-- especially with those Brit'isms of his, I'll be more than glad to help out if I can-- especially as it's my natural language, and I'm fairly good now at translating into Americanese, even Hill Country Texan--- or maybe you mean the language of the Victorian flatlanders(?) ha, ha. I too am in the process of designing a draw leaf table. I'm fortunate though to already have one that I can model it on. I read the recommendation by Sgian last night and managed to pick up the book he suggested at the library today. A couple others to look for are 'Rodale's Illustrated Cabinetmaking' by Bill Hylton which has drawings of the basic workings. The best one though is 'Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking Book 3: Furnituremaking' in which he devotes a whole chapter to the design and construction of a draw leaf table. I have all 3 sitting on my desk now and the one by Tage Frid is the most detailed. Hope this helps
Thanks for your reply. I just ordered the book Richard suggested, so I will see if it tells me what I want to know. Hopefully it contains other information that will be of help on other projects. I will check out Tage Frid's third book. I have his other two, and have found them of practical use.
Thanks again for your help.
Ernest
