Hello all, I am refinishing an old dresser and see the top two curved drawers are slightly redder than the rest. Originally the dresser was darker so I didn’t see the difference, but now that’s it’s sanded down it’s pretty noticeable to me. Was hoping for a lighter finish but I’m flexible.
1) Should I finish with a lighter shade and live with the difference?
2) Try to match the reddish color with stain, etc so the whole piece is uniform?
3) Stain it a little darker?
Would love some feedback. Thanks!

And this is for a quick flip?
#1 is kind of what I’m leaning towards too. It’s all in how you look at it, right?
I may try to sell it, time will tell…
You may want to checkout Mohawk Finish Toner colors. They come in aerosol cans that can be used to to blend/shade a finish to even out color differences. I’ve had good success with them however you will need to experiment a little to get the best results.
Never heard of that, thank you. If needed I may go that route.
If you wet the surfaces with alcohol or mineral spirits, is the color difference still (as) noticeable? That should provide a reasonable understanding of how it might anppear under a clear finish.
Yes it’s still noticeable but not as bad as I thought. My plan is to match the color tone a little better. Not expecting perfection but something a little closer - Just to take the edge off the contrasting color.
