I`am just finishing a mission piece,is it ok to finish the drawer sides the same as front or leave them natural looking.Sides are birch.The rest will be fumed then stained.

I don't see why not. It's normal to apply finish to drawer sides to match the front, though sometimes they're clearcoated for convenience. Still, if this is a mission reproduction, chances are it'd be oak not birch.

I would recommend either shellac or lacquer for all drawer parts. Any varnish or oil based finish will smell forever.
