I am looking for a good reference book or on-line site that will provide CLEAR instructions for installing full length drawer slides as well as how to choose the proper length.

It's pretty simple once you do your first drawer. Accuride is a good brand.
Accuride is a good brand.Just a comment.. I used 8 each, 24 inch full extension slides from them in my horizontal router table.. Any movement in them (in my application) is not worth measuring.. Just about perfect! Not bad for the money payed.
wildwood,
I agree with Rick on this.
I just got through building a file cabinet, and I used the 18" Accuride "over-travel" drawer slides (model #4034). These are the ones that open all the way out, then go little more, so the entire drawer is outside the case. What a fun thing to see! The slides are really sturdy and smooth.
I was so concerned about installing these, I fretted and searched the Web for instructions. I even bought a "Jig-It" thing from Rockler that helps you install the slides. Then I just dove in and did it, and you know what...it was less complicated than I thought it would be.
As you are installing them, you kind of "get it." The most important thing is the design of the case. Make sure the opening (span?) is correct for the slides. And make sure your face frames are not going to interfere with the installation of the drawer.
By the way, I did not use the Jig-It. After diving in, I realized I don't need it, so I sent it back to Rockler!
I bought the slides from my local Woodcraft, but you can also order them from Rockler.

Accuride makes a great product. However, the directions that come with the slides are a little obtuse.
I installed 6 pairs on a project recently and I did a smart thing by buying the template. You'll also have to take your drawer design into consideration. It's the face setback/design that can trip you up trying to figure out how far back to start the mount. And if you want to use the 1/8" adjustment (cute little cam action) then screw thru that one first otherwise you won't be able to adjust.
Side clearances are also interesting. The drawer sides and the cabinet sides had better be pretty parallel.
But like the previous post noted. Do a few and you'll learn. If you don't get the full depth slide, then you won't get a full extension.
But, like I said. Great product. But steep learning curve.

As bobtexas sez, "its all in the side clearances", the rest is obvious...Except the Accuride pocket door setup...Brain damage..

Bob,
You wrote, "The drawer sides and the cabinet sides had better be pretty parallel."Yes, when I was building the case for the file cabinet, it occurred to me that everything had to be parallel otherwise the drawer would seize up. But of course we woodworkers always make sure everything is parallel even without drawer slides, right!Seriously, the drawer slides do put added importance on this.
Not to knock Accuride in any way, but if you are looking for concealed slides I think that the Blum Tandem are the best that are out there. Their technical data is first rate, but nothing beats just making the first few drawers.

ring,
I was at the AWFS Fair in Las Vegas in July, and I had a chance to review a lot of new hardware optionsAt the time, I was in the middle of two projects that involved drawer slides, so I went from the Accuride booth to the Blum booth to compare. Both were nice, but the Blum slides felt much heavier in my hands. The construction of the Blum slides is really impressive.I went with Accuride only because the budget didn't allow for Blum! But in the future, I can't wait to do a job with Blum slides.Blum sent me their giant notebook with details and photos of all their products. If anyone needs it, I can scan pages and put them up here.
I'm currently doing a large and exclusive job - office furniture for a financial firm in downtown Manhattan. It includes 100 drawers, 60 of them for files. We are using Blum Tandem throughout the project, full extension with soft-closing mechanism. No question in my mind that they are currently the best available.
DR
ring,
Post pictures!
I promise to do that, but don't hold your breath. Installation date is in February.

Blum soft-closing .. They are COOL! My friend has them in their house...
I think their kitchen cost more than my whole house!
