I’m designing a kitchen with a peninsula in it and I would like to make one of the drawers slide out (full extension) on either side of it. I’m also interested in similar hardware for the waste and recycling bins. Anyone know of hardware that can go both ways?

You'll need two-way drawer slides for the kitchen island drawer. I searched Google and came up with a set from Accuride. You might want to research a bit to see if other manufacturers produce similar two-way slides, but these should do the trick:

For the other specialty slides try the catalog dealers like Rockler.com and Woodworkers Supply.

Thanks, Matt! I found a few more on Google--Schock and Sugatsune--but my first search for "double acting" didn't turn up anything. I'm not familiar with these companies, do you have any recommendations or assessments of the brands?Robin
Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with the comparable qualities of these three companies. I know Accuride is an established maker of slides. I also know that Woodworkers Supply, which has the Schock slides, is always pretty reliable. If price is an indication of quality, the Accurides are about three times more than Schock. If you really want an opinion try posting on the Knots discussion board and you'll likely get a good cross section of user review.
Thanks, Matt! This is my first post on this board and you have been very helpful! I'll try to look at the slides before I buy, so I don't spend more than I need to...but I know that the satisfaction of low price fades much faster than the disappointment of low quality.
