i ve been thinking for years of buying a drill doctor type sharpening tool. everytime i look, there seem to be more, and more expensive models to choose from. the sales people praise them to the skies. i ve only encountered two owners. a home owner who loves his, and a carpenter buddy who was given one and was so frustrated trying to use it, he gave it to someone else. any input?

You don't need a drill doctor for a "Brokenhammer" LOL
I have a Drill doctor, the somthing, somthing 500.
Goes up to 1/2" bits & works really good. I'm very happy with mine & use it all the time.
As for your friend not being able to get it to work, I'm not sure why that would be as they are pretty easy to use.
It takes more time to get it off the shelf & out of the case than sharpen a bit.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the input. i did buy it, and like it pretty well. the video was very helpful. it doesn t always work perfect for me tho, guess my technique needs work. larry
Glad I could help, I had to laugh at the video as it seemed they were still trying to sell me the unit,
Good luck,
PJE
Brokenhammer,
I too have the Drill Doctor model 500. I was skeptical at first but after giving it a try I was totally sold. It takes about a minute to sharpen a drill bit (once you have it out of the case and plugged in). It's amazing how much faster a sharp drill bit will work than a dull one. Now I don't have to through out a bit and run to the hardware store to get a new bit while I'm in the middle of a job.
Great little tool!

I got the 500 too. i wish I would of bought the one that goes up to 3/4 inch. But I love mine. The only bad thing about it, is why I did not buy it years ago.
thanks for the input. i did buy it, and like it pretty well. the video was especially helpful. my technique must need work tho, cause some attempts are not entirely successful. larry
