Am I mistaken to think that I need a drum sander to dimension resawn stock to make my own veneer.
Additionally would a drum sander be the appropriate tool for finishing a cabinet door or will a ROS, such as the Festool 125 do the job?

A drum sander will do the job for veneer (although painfully slowly!) but you do not necessarily need one. I routinely plane cherry down below 1/8" and surface it by hand- Also- if you can find a mill shop that has a wide belt sander the amount they would charge is a lot less than buying the drum sander (My experience with a drum sander was pretty negative)
As far as surfacing cabinet doors- a random orbit sander, a drum sander, a handplane or a card scraper are all appropriate.
Good luck

Thanks for your response. After reading on-line reviews of drum sanders I'd say that even those who like them qualify their positive responses with comments like, "Yeah, they're great...when they work. But I spend as much time adjusting them as I do getting work done."
