I have a question for you drum sander (eg, Performax 16-32, Delta 18-36, etc) users out there … I believe I’ve seen posts stating that some users run door stiles and rails thru their sanders. I’m assuming that these are not assembled when they are sanded, otherwise some pieces would be sanded across the grain if done assembled. Correct?

You will get cross grain scratches but it they are easy to remove with a random orbit sander.
Thanks, Tom.
I have the Ryobi and when I do that I run the whole door somewhat skewed. Normally when sanding a door it's just to "clean up" the assembly and I've got 150grit in the machine so the scratches aren't hard to get rid of. Also, I noticed early on that I could get a little "dip" in the stiles as the drum came off the rail, not much but enough to notice. Running the doors at a slight angle eliminates that problem as well.
