Hello: I’ve been looking for a good dovetail saw and found so many different specs on them that I’m kinda lost. I have been practicing with c.c. and rip tenon saws that I already have with mixed results, I guess they are too large to make such small cuts accurately. I want a western style one and have looked at Adria, L.N., Pax, Lynx. Closed handle or “gents” style. 15 tpi or 20+tpi. ???? I assume the smaller the kerf the better and have seen some set on one side only. Also what can a coping saw be used for in cutting d.t’s? Can’t buy em all, so what do other Knotheads use?
Thanks, KDM

I think there is another post in here like this..
a good dovetail saw ..
I think it really boils down to ANY saw you have you can cut a STRAIGHT line with...
Ken, I use a Japanese saw that cuts on the pull stroke for dovetailing. Cutting on the pull stroke gives me more control than a western style saw which cuts on the push stroke. The saw has 32 tpi and has a kerf of 0.011" (thickness of about 3-4 sheets of paper). The particular saw I use is from http://www.japanwoodworker.com and comes in 2 sizes. The part numbers are 18.210.0 and 18.150.0. Both are less than $40 and no sharpening - just replace the blade when you need to.

Japanese saw is like a woman..
You have to 'pull' her toward ya to get the most out of it!....
Duke -- I have a dovetail saw by Adria and have been pleased with my ability to cut very exact dt's. The dovetail saw is set for rip cuts (which I believe is important) as opposed to their tenon saw which is set for cross cuts.
