I recently bought a Dewalt 735 and the shavings do not get ejected out of the dust port. Instead they leak through the cutterhead cover and fill the inside of the machine up. This causes the gears and chain which raise and lower the unit to clog so badly that I cannot raise or lower it. To fix it I have to take off the cover blow the whole thing out until the cog wheels are clean. It only takes about five minutes of light planing (1/32″) for the machine to fill up. The chip ejector does work and it is hooked up to a 4″ dust collecter. I have even tried putting foam tape around the cutterhead cover to get a better seal but that has not helped.
Has anyone else experienced this and fixed it. My next step is to cut a 4″ hole in the top and attach the dust collector to it, but I thought I would try here first
Thanks
Ryan

Either the fan is not operating or you have some blockage. I've put a long hose on mine and used it like a leaf blower to clean out the shop, to give you an idea how much air you should be moving.

Ryan,
I have the DW735(in fact I had several of them before they got it right) and did not have anything near what you describe. I would suggest before you cut on the machine to contact the dealer or DW rep; there is definitely something wrong with the machine you have and someone should exchange it out.
"My next step is to cut a 4" hole in the top and attach the dust collector to it," Yikes! Don't do it! Definitely contact DeWalt (or, if you got it from a Big Box store, take it back). If you cut an extra hole in it, and it still doesn't work, then what are you going to do?

I'm going on memory here, but I believe that the fan on the planer is driven by a belt drive, so my first guess would be that the belt failed or slipped off. The fan is visible through the dust port, look to see what shape it is in and try to rotate it with your finger or a short stick. If it is hooked up properly it should be hard or impossible to turn. In any case, something is almost certainly wrong with the machine and you should get in touch with DeWalt.
