If you're way overbudget already, what's a couple blast gates going to do? What dream shop is on budget?
Did you use dust collection hose, metal ducting, or plastic pipe for your ducting? When I redo my ducting, I will be using Schedule 40 or something comparable - smooth inside and out. For "blast gates", I will cut a hole in the bottom of the pipe which goes horizontally along the wall. An Y will swivel up and down on the pipe. When it is "down", the arm of the Y will be aligned with the hole in the ducting. When the Y is up, the hole in the ducting will be covered. That's my plan - no blast gates.

I don't know what size ducting you are using or how many gates you will need, but MLCS Industries (the router bit people) have inexpensive gates. By the time you engineer the gate, cut the wood, play around finding the proper hole saws, etc, you can buy them for cheap. MLCS has several different models. Find their catalog and buy the gates. It will be money well spent.
Sorrry, I loaned my catalog out to a friend and don't have it here to quote prices or pages.
