The Grizzley dust collector i got has a 6″ main intake thimble. It came with a plastic Y for 2- 4″ trunk lines. For some reason I took off from the 6″ intake with 6″ metal pipe to a point where i throttled down to 4″ plastic for by 2 main trunk lines.
Is it better to keep the size of the pipe as big as possible until necessasry to make convienent size hookups to the individual machines or should i of run 4″ from the intake? Or does it matter much.
And why does Dewalt make thier planer chutes off to one side and not centered.Makes draw way uneven.

Which DeWalt planer do you have? The newest one with the fan-assisted chip eject will do just fine, centered or not, from what I've heard.
Great question. I do NOT have a good answer.
Sounds like a Engineering problem. Maybe Mel can help you if he can get one of the guys/gals from NASA to input an opinion/FACT!
I would 'think' the air drawn in at the source should have some place for equal 'air sucked in to it' no matter where it is. I have been wrong before..
Maybe a vacuum gauge at different points in your set-up may tell.
But I'd just go with what you did and see if the dust 'collects'!
