Hello everyone, I have owned a Delta Sidekick Sliding Compound Miter Saw (36-250) with folding stand for several years now, and have been happy with it’s performance save for one thing- dust collection. The saw has a dust bag which I removed, and hooked up a shop-vac hose to the port, but this does not seem to collect any more dust than the bag did. The biggest pain is that the blade covers the slider rails with a blanket of sawdust every cut, and you have to stop and brush off the rails every few cuts to keep the saw moving freely. I have tried to come up with some way to position a hose behind the blade to solve this problem, but being a slider, it is especially difficult to position anything so that it is not in the way of tilt/sliding action. Have any of you had this problem and found a way of collecting the dust so that the rails aren’t covered with sawdust?

The two ready-made gizmos are the Big Gulp and the (oh, cr*p, can't remember the name).... Anyway here's the Big Gulp from Penn State. It's also sold by Woodcraft. The other thing (un-named at the moment) is incredibly expensive.
You don't mention how much you move your slider around. If you use it in place almost always, there are a few home-made solutions around. If you roll it around alot, that's more difficult.

Thanks, I think the other one you were thinking of is the Rousseau Downdraft ( big yellow dust hood ) and it is very expensive, although it looks as if it would work well.http://www.bigeasytools.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1424

Yeah, that's it. I have a mind-block against the name for some reason. forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Click here for a really nice shop-made miter saw DC. He made it for a regular saw, but it could certainly be adapted for a slider.
