Dust collection for sliding miter saw
As I have only a shop vacuum for dust collection I haven’t built a big dust collection box at the back of my Milwaukee sliding miter saw like folks with real dust collectors do. The dust port, even with the vac is not very effective. I saw a device on the EZ guide forum on Sawmill that’s designed for worm drive saws and it’s a dust pick at the blade the way you would on a router table — it’s not an EZ guide product. The web site is http://www.dustmuzzle.com. Has anyone played around with anything like this on a miter saw? I am thinking of attempting to mock up something like the dustmuzzle for the miter saw. Has anyone played around with anything like this ?

I saw this site as well. But $60 for a hunk of plastic!
I need something like that for my miter saw and 2 circular saws, especicially when I cut MDF.
Great idea, and it looks like it works. I'd pay $30 for it.

Exactly -- very pricey and only for worm drives. I will experiment with a dust pickup right by the blade on my miter saw and see if I have any luck. I wonder if anyone out there has tried the product on a worm drive?

WHile probably not directly applicable to miter saws, the owner of the EZ Guide system has invented a dust pick-up for right-blade circular saws. I believe it only fits Porter Cable now.
I just e-mailed him asking that he look into the 2 rt. bladed CS I have (Skil and Milwaukee) because both of these have easily removable outer half of main guard, thus making it possible to apply a Dustmuzzle type of plastic device.
I also have a big Skil Mag 77 worm-drive, and if I used it more often I would consider a Dustmuzzle.

PS:
see http://www.eurekazone.com the owner is Dino.
I am familiar with that -- I just bought an EZ guide. Dino's figured out that a little flap of plastic directs the airflow better to the PC dust port, so it's only for the PC saws with the dust port. He is supposed to send me the plastic but I think any type of flexable plastic would work -- a coffee can lid but bigger. He's got the layout on the web site.

For a CMS or SCMS, I just got a "big gulp" type of dust intake and mounted it at the back of the table, right behind the end of the slider. It works well and captures most of the dust. The part costs less than $10 plus you would get adapters to work it with a shop vac (I think the big ones only come in 4")
Available at Woodcraft, Rockler (I think), Woodworkers Supply.
