How do you transition from flex hose to rigid PVC pipe when setting up a dust collection system? I use 4″ hose and the ID on the PVC is 4″. Can you use a 4″ splice to make this connection? I can’t find the pieces I need locally (to test fit) and would appreciate any help here before I order the parts online.
Thanks in advance,

First-off I use 4" PVC thinwall Drain pipe and fittings, cause it's way cheaper that Sch 40. Second by a 4" DC hose coupling and cut it in half on your bandsaw. Now you have 2 adapters. Take the last pipe fitting where you want to go to hose and cut the socket almost back it's entire lenght. I do this twice at 90 degrees, to form four tabs, if you will. Insert the 1/2 adapter and clamp it with a hose clamp. Now you have a 4" hose connection.

Woodcraft makes an adapter that slips over thinwall PVC pipe, and also connects to 4" flex pipe.
I use 4" ABS DWV pipe -- alot stronger than thinwall PVC, and still cheaper than sched. 40 PVC. I've found that blast gates are a snug enough fit in the ABS pipe that I can glue them in place with yellow glue (just un case I ever need to take them off). I use aluminum blast gates; I bought a few when the local Rockler had a big sale on them. The flex pipe then connects to the other side of the blast gate.
