Will 5” round, 30 Ga., ductwork be mechanically strong enough for a dust collector with a 1550 cfm flow rate?
Is there a need to be concerned with vibrations in the ductwork?
Other than caulk/tape the seam and end joints … keep the pipe/hose short… I would appreciate any comments or advice
Thanks in advance.

Not sure if the pipe will be strong enough or possibly collapse, but would suggest you consider the availability of adapters to go from your 5" pipe size down to 4" as needed to connect to most tools. I used 4" and 6" plastic pipe and had some challenges adapting to 4" dust collection fittings. Certainly can be done, but for me it was trial and error.
Also, the Chiefs own the Bills. Go Chiefs!!
Thanks for the reply but ..
It would be best not to talk with your foot in your mouth

Chiefs have 4 super bowl wins; two in the last two years. And the bills? Oh wait, they have never won the big game. And are they the team that went to the big dance 3 or 4 times in a row and still never won?
All in fun, and great game today. Hope you all make it to the big one this year and get the win (unless KC is in the mix).
The '72 Dolphins are happy tonight, and even heavy gauge spiral pipe would collapse under the suck produced by my NY Jets.
Worse than the team with the #1 draft pick last year?
Da Bearzzzzz.
Perhaps not. 30g is very thin and intended to carry force air pushed through. The forces of a vacuum will be fine until it's closed or clogged it's likely to collapse. Remember if you choose pvc for part of the system you can use the stuff from the garden center, schedule 40 is overkill.
I think 30 ga is likely too thin as well. I wouldn't worry too much about vibration. Remember to use larger radius turns whenever you can. Gentle turns are a lot better for air flow. Flex hose is terrible for air flow. Oneida Air has a lot of useful information about ductwork design on their website that I found very useful. There is a lot of useful information on the internet as well. As far as duct diameter, that depends on how long your runs will be and how many CFM you need at the end of the run. Larger pipe isn't always better (although it usually is) as you may end up with air speed dropping too low and then the dust will settle out. For me at least it was more of a case of how many feet of 4 inch duct can I run from the trunk to save space and money and keep the CFM up where I needed it. Here's a link to an article that walks you through the basic process. https://www.woodmagazine.com/figure-dust-collection-needs-by-the-numbers. Woodcraft and Powertec (and probably others) make adaptors to go from 4 inch PVC to dust collector ports and flex hose if you need them. You can also soften PVC with a heat gun and mold it to fit sometimes. Just go easy on the heat until you get the hang of it.
I'm in Wisconsin...the Packers played the Jets big time when they traded a washed up QB for some good draft picks. Rodgers was bad the year before he was traded, the only thing better would have been if they traded him the year before to SF, who reportedly wanted him so badly that they were willing to give up one, if not two, first round future picks and more.
Aaron was an egotistic head case even back in college, which is why he dropped to the 26th or 27th position of the first round. Now he is thinking about a career in politics, maybe even a run for the White House in 2028! His own family doesn't even talk to him.
It was disgusting to see him run out onto the field at the beginning of his first home game with the Jets, leading the team while carrying a huge American flag.
Dagnabbit! AIM's subscription department screwed up again. Here I thought I was subscribing to Fine Woodworking.
He is talking about a dirt bag and sucking...
Oh, I get it. And maybe getting routed?
I predict that this thread will now survive another two weeks solely from a stream of bad puns.
If you are serious about dust collection don’t skimp on duct work. It’s not worth it. I used everything and finally relied on 8” main ducts with 6” lines to the machines. You use dust collection every time you machine. If you do a lot of work, imagine the cost per use. It is essentially nothing and you aren’t constantly cleaning up escaping chips and dust. 24 gauge minimum
