I own a Ryobi BT3000 table saw. It has a hood over the bottom of the saw blade ( the hood is only about 2 or so inches wide & fits the blade fairly tightly) with a 2 1/2 in. port on the back for dust & scrap removal. Because the port & the hood are so small in volume it does not look like a large volume of air can be pulled through the hood & port. Would a shop vac or a 1 1/2 HP portable dust collector work best in this situation. I’ve got a small shop so if I could get away with a shop vac without too much loss of performance that would be a good thing. Thanks for your help.

I have the same saw and a shop vac will work far better than a large pipe dust collection system when pulling through a small dust fitting like the one on your saw.
