I recently decided to upgrade my dust mask situation. So I tried the Dust Foe, purchased from a Woodcraft store. I cannot get this thing to go on comfortably — it either is too loose and does not form a good seal around my mouth and nose, or it is too tight and hurts a lot. I can’t wear my eye protection with it, because it rides so high on the bridge of your nose that your goggles are up on your forehead.
Has anyone else had the same problems with this thing, or am I doing something wrong?
Suggestions on other (better) dust masks are also welcome!

I have this dust mask and have found it minimally OK. The rubber strap has gradually lost all of its elasticity and I am also in search of a new mask. When I put on my safety glasses, they tend to also fit too high on my nasal bridge if not adjusted properly. The local stores all seem to have masks that have a cartridge similar to the mask I wear when I use noxious solvents or finishes. If only wood didn't make any dust, then I would be in good shape!
Matthew, I just looked at the mask on their website. They claim it has a comfortable, air tight fit to the face. Guess it's either plastic surgery to lower that nose or take the Dust Foe back to Woodcraft. I'd be interested to know how they handle the return.
Does anyone know of a source for new rubber straps? I've got two that have dried out. And could they put chintzier rubber bands on the disposable masks?

Might try one of the hobby stores like your wife goes to. I have found elastic straps, leather and foam there when all else failed. Just a thought.

Matthew,
I have two of these masks and really like them. For me, they are comfortable and very effective. I have not had a problem with my glasses either. Maybe I was abducted and had a nose job by aliens!

I have one and I am reasonable satisfied. It is light weight which I like. I have the same problem with the straps. It seems to function well. The body is made of light gauge metal so it can be conformed to fit.

I have used one on and off for two years. It's pretty comfy after you get it adjusted right, but the thing with glasses you mentioned seems to be the biggest frustration. Sometimes I use the larger type for chemicals for dust. They seem to be a better match in my case with the glasses issue. Little heavier, but life isn't perfect I suppose.
Best of luck...

Matthew,
I bought some from Lee Valley at http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=1&page=41726&category=1,42207,43647. I got the antifog version because I wear glasses. They are the best I have ever had. The only others that I could use at all were made by 3M, but they fogged my glasses too. None of the others fit at all.
