Hello,
I have an opportunity to buy a DW625 3hp off a guy in town and haven’t priced these out at all. It has been barely used and I am just starting out and was going to buy the Porter Cable 895PK.
He is wanting CAD $250.00 for the unit and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on this as I would go and buy the Porter Cable Fixed Base separately and forget the combo kit.
What does a DW625 sell for brand new?
Thanks for any advice you are able to give
Allison

$206.00 US on Amazon.com today.
Nice Router but as the other person posted you can get it for a much better price from Amazon.

AVC please fill out some of your profile so that we know roughly where you are. Since you've mentioned CAD$ I'll assume you're north of the 49th like I am.
When I looked after Christmas they were running about $375 at BusyBee, House of Tools, and Home Despot. I ended up ordering it from the States from Craftsman Gallery http://www.chipsfly.com/ along with the Quick Change Chuck (about $50 US) that they sell. After the exchange, shipping, etc., it came to about $350.
Obviously from what the other poster said you could do better
The 625 is more powerful than the 895 (3 hp vs 2 1/4) but doesn't have the plunge depth. I have both plus a couple Makitas. Eventually you will end up with more yourself and the 625 is as good as anything else to start with. What you end up paying is up to you and your haggling skills.
Thanks for updating me on my profile information...I am a new member...I just updated now.
I come from Oakville, Manitoba which is about 1 hour outside of Winnipeg to the West but not quite as far as Portage la Prairie.
Nice knowing there are other Canadians on the forums!

"Nice knowing there are other Canadians on the forums!"One you start to discover and poke around other forums you'll find that we infect them all. ;-)Since BruceS correctly said in his post that you need 'Popeye arms' for the bigger routers like the Dewalt, you should give a serious look at trim routers. They can easily be used one handed, if you have big kid cuffers, and it is always my first choice for any light work like rounding over/profiling edges etc. They start at about a hundred bucks and are a useful complement to a big router.Enjoy!
Allison, The DW 625 is a dandy router. I have one but it's mounted in my router table. I have used it as a hand held and it works well and is nicely ballanced. BUT I would not recommend it as your primary hand held router unless you have arms like Popeye. I would go for the DW621 or their 1 3/4 HP combo kit with plunge and fixed bases. Also the DW plunge bases are much tighter and smoother operating than their PC cousins.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
