I just received my DW735 and the speed selector switch does not change the motor speed when the motor is running as it should. The instructions say to only change the speed selector when the motor is running and that is what I have done.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a way to fix this without having to return it? The selector shaft does pivot when the knob is rotated, but the speed remains constant.
I am not looking forward to returning this beast, but may have to do so. I dissasembled my 8′ DW733 planer bench hoping to just slide the 735 in place and pick up where I left off, but does not seem plausible now.
All comments are most welcome.

The motor speed stays the same but the feed rate should change. Make sure the seclector is fully engaged into either the 1 or 2 position.
JerryPM,
Thanks for your response. This is music to my ears.
If I'm reading your comments correctly, I must actually run some stock through the planer to note the change?
I have not done this, so I will await your response.
Jerry,
Thanks again for your response.
I ran some stock through the planer and noted that the feed rate does indeed change dependent on the selector position. I was mistaken in my belief that the motor speed would determine the feed rate. At any rate (pun intended), I am very relieved to know that I do not have to return this planer.
The results of the three-knife head is impressive. However, snipe is still visible even with the the very, very light cuts that I took. I can live with that because I have always used an internal bed for all of my planers and will do the same with this one.
I sincerely appreciate your help.
planer blades
The other thing you should do for this planer which I also have is to add a hight gage from wixey tool and use the carbide blades from infinity tool you will get a much better finish and they will save you money in the long run.
