Hello All, I am building a 52″ high, 30″ wide, bookcase from solid European yew. Some of the pieces have white-wood patterning. Should I try and dye these white bits? Is it likely to turn out blotchy since the grain is very tight? What type of dye would be suitable? Thanks in advance for any advice. Rgds.

If you want to even the color a bit use a water soluble dye. You can mix it to any strength you want simple by adding more of the dye powder to your water. If I were to do this I would use it half strength and "wash' the area a couple of times instead of trying to get the color all at once.
Adding color to any wood is purely subjective. Many feel that wood should always remain in it's natural state and never be colored. You'll see this in discussions about cherry all the time. The yew will have interesting variations in color. If you want to even it out, that's your choice. Be sure to try your technique on a sample before diving in to your piece.
