I just got a request to build an art display easel. This will be my first one and I’m having trouble finding ideas for the design. It’s pretty much up to me as long as it does not resemble the myriad el cheapos that are out there. If anyone has any pictures, links, book titles, ideas, whatever, they would be greatly appreciated. I just searched the archives and found some good info on the artist type easels but nothing on the display type. More info is better IMHO so thanks for your help.

My own preference is minimalist. An easel should only be visible enough to keep people from running into it. :) Minimum weight to carry around is also a virtue.
You might want to try the Advanced Search button near the top of the frame on the left and search for music stands. I've seen several posted here that might give you some ideas. Another possibility would be to look the FWW article on dictionary stands. Use the Magazine Index on the Fine Woodworking home page, accessible via the button just above the Knots button at the top of the window. Some of them were pretty stout pieces of furniture, but I remember one that looked like it was about to take off.
Go to art supply company websites. Alot of them sell display easels in addition to artists easels.
Some good companies are Utrecht, Dick Blick, and Rex Art.
Hope this helps.
