i quick ebay search reveals some low-cost, carbide tipped router bit sets, some $35 for i believe 50 pieces (plus $20 or so shipping), others closer to $90 for 66 pieces (plus $15 for shipping). these appear to be very attractive prices if the quality is decent. any thoughts/experience on the quality of these bits and how they may compare to other low cost alternatives (such as mlcs, woodline, grizzly, etc)?
here’s a link, not sure it will work.

Haven't used WoodLine, Griz, etc, but did buy an Ebay set early on and found that they work ok; they're a little more likely to burn the wood--not as sharp--but held up reasonably well over time. Good starting set, I'd say, but not for those who want only "good" tools.

My advice: Stick to MLCS (or Woodline). I'm all for bargain-hunting, but there's a limit. Why buy a piece of carbide to spin a zillion miles an hour and not know what you're getting or have any recourse if they turn out to be crap?

on ebay, do a search for Whiteside router bits. Then look for ones sold by brier-toys. or maybe it is briartoys or briar-toys. Whatever, top of the line bits at a wonderful discount.

Prices are OK, certainly better than at Woodcraft. However, Ballew Saw and Tool probably has the best on-line prices, and shipping is free over $100.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I did a couple apples for apples comparison. Briar Toys on ebay is about 10 % cheaper than Ballew. But, I will add Ballew to my list of sources.

Your apples must have been different from mine, LOL. Did you factor in shipping? IIRC, there's a bigger difference with the most expensive bits.
I've gotta get a new paper catalog from Ballew. Their web site drives me nuts.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I use the BIG BOX Tool Shop bits Just 1/4 inch shank.. I use them for the rough work.. Some have sizes that ar 'off' a bit.. OK by me cus I finish off with my Whitesides...
