Has anyone used this type of saw for cutting sliding dovetails? It’s similar to what Tage Frid uses in his book and seems to be easier than using a regular dovetail saw and guide block. Two things that appeal to me about this style is that you can set the depth of cut and also The Best Things has a replacement blade for less than $20.00 so it would be a tool that I could make. I’d be curious to hear from anyone who’s used this type of saw whether it would be worth the time/effort to make. In your opinion, does this saw work well for cutting sliding dovetails? Thanks in advance!

What ECE refer to as a sliding dovetail saw is just another term for a stair saw. These have been around for a long, long time. And, yes, they are indeed useful for sawing housings.
My preference for sawing sliding dovetails is a mitre saw. I know that this is long (mine is 26"), but used against a fence it can saw a very accurate sidewall. And if the fence is the desired angle, then you have the start of a perfect sliding dovetail.
