I have an Eclipse 39 sharpener. This is the one that rolls a drill bit over sandpaper.
Problem is, I’ve lost the instructions!–although I remember all of it except the last part.
If you have one of these sharpeners, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me how the tip of the bit needs to be oriented in the sharpener.
Thank you!
Janet

Janet, if you have a bench grinder now might be the time to learn to sharpen these pests by hand....
I have used an Eclipse drill sharpening guide in the past, of the type that is used with a bench grinder. Quite honestly I believe those are only useful for small drills-like less than 3mm. I can't think that one of these that uses abrasive paper could be much good, but I may stand to be corrected.
Thank you!Alf,
The link was exactly what I needed. It didn't have illustrations but as soon as I read the instructions, I remembered how I did it the first time.Philip,
I never did get the hang of sharpening bits by hand (ended up with a bunch of short pieces of steel), but you're right, it's something I should learn. I'll keep plugging away.Janet
Janet, try here.
Cheers, Alf
