I am making mahogany drawer fronts and want to use edge beading. I’m considering using rosewood, but I have two questions about it. 1. Are there issues with gluing rosewood? 2. Do you think that there may be too much contrast aesthetically?

Brandywinebill,
Thanks for your question.
I am forwarding it to Gary Rogowski.
Sincerely,

Hi,
I have had good luck machining rosewood or hand planing it and then wiping it with a rag dampened in alcohol. Once the alcohol dries, I glue up with Titebond. But I have only worked with East Indian Rosewood. You might have different results with a more resinous rosewood. Try a piece out and glue up some samples first.
As for rosewood cock beading, as it's called, I think it would look great with mahogany at first. But I have seen some rosewoods oxidize to a dull brown over time. The mahogany will of course go a deeper red. The two colors might look closer to one another after a few years than they did when they started. They'll still look nice though. Good luck with it.
