Has anyone noticed the review of eight inch jointers in the latest issue of Wood Magazine? It lists eight eight inch jointers of which the Powermatic 60B for $1200 is labeled the tops. The picture and the description is of the Powermatic 882 which sell for about $1800. At fifty percent more in cost it should be the best! Seems to me that pretty well negates the whole study. I notice the spell check doesn’t like Powermatic. It suggests problematic. Is their any connection?

Personally I like the General 8" the best. It is considerably heavier than most. It is not as long as some though. I do like the way the infeed and outfeed tables adjust better.
If however I could find an Oliver 8" or Northfield 8" I would go for that.
There are many good used jointers for sale that are much better than any new jointers today. You just have to be patient. Ebay has them quite often.
I just purchased the Powermatic 60B on Amazon. Price was $1199 but there is a coupon for $150 off and another coupon for a free DeWalt reciprocating saw ($199 list) and free shipping (save $229). No sales tax. That seemed too good of a deal to pass up. Delivery is in mid-March.
Previously, I bought the Powermatic 66 on amazon. That was shipped for only $9.99 and arrived on a lift gate truck. The driver wheeled it into my garage. I hope it's the same freight company delivering the 60B. You might want to check out amazon before you buy elsewhere.

Thanks for the post. I have been looking at Amazon. In the past I have purchased the PM 66 saw and the mortiser from Tool Crib, which I understand is the same store. Have been very pleased with both deals. As prices go up over the years the deals look even better.
