Hi All,
I’m currently toying with the idea of buying an electric handheld planer and was wondering how many of you out there use one and how you use it. I recently lost access to a large shop where I use to prep my wood (long story I won’t get into it) so at this time I’m back in my garage and having my lumberyard prep the wood for me, since I no longer have access to a planner or jointer. I guess what I’m asking is an electric handheld planer worthwhile. Occasionally I’ll have to prep a couple of board and using a traditional hand plane may not be time effective or running back to my lumberyard. Buying a benchtop planer and jointer is not feasible at this time, if anyone out there has other ideas they would be appreciated. Sorry for rambling on and I hope this makes sense I just finished a sixteen hour day in the shop in order to meet a couple of deadlines.
Thanks for your assistance.

Have the Bosch 3 1/2" hand-held. Excellent feel and good machine. I use it sparingly as I have a jointer and planer. Mostly around house for doors, etc. where I can't bring the work-piece to the jointer or planer. I ocassionally use it to run a chamfer after I have assembled and decide I should have added one. ( I design my own projects ).
Depends on what you expect from it. I will bow out and let the guys that do it commercially take the reins as they probaly could provide more in-sight from every-day use with this tool..
Luck...
