electrostatic percip element cleaner?
By way of a garage sale, I find myself with a rather largish electrostatic air cleaner for my workshop.
Years ago, I became aware that there were special cleaners for the electrostatic filter elements , but recent inquiries to HVAC installers and maintenance folks just draw blank stares.
As the percipitating element on this beastie weighs 35 lbs (of aluminium!!) I’d rather not find myself replacing it cause I used the wrong cleaner to clean it.
Anyone got any recollections of what the cleaner was or where it may be obtained?
Meanwhile I is just using compresser air…..rather than chemically damage the plates and render them useless.

Eric: I use a cleaner from Grainger made for electrostatic cells. It is in a pump bottle, cheaper then spray cans. You do have to be carefull with the small wires and sharp edges, also it must be compleatly dry before use. If the fan can be turned on seperatly it will help dry it out.

Hey thanks...I knew it was out there, just couldn't find the right source.

This is an intuitive guess so take it with a grain of salt. I would imagine that the aluminium must remain somewhat polished and that pitting would ruin the electorstatic efficiency. So, don't use any cleaners with caustic solutions as that will etch the aluminium.
