I’m restoring an oak entry door on a Victorian house. One piece of embossed egg and dart molding is irreparably damaged. I’ve looked at VanDykes, Constantines, and Rockler with no luck – theirs are all to large.
I need a piece about 3/8″ x 1/4″ or even 1/4″ x 1/4″. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jeff, if it's painted, a cast reproduction would be the easy way to go but I'm going to assume it's not painted. Someone could probably carve a copy before you could locate a piece commercially and it may be impossible to do so. A flap wheel sander or nylox brush should take down the crispness of carving and give it the embossed look. Hope the job is priced time and materials.

RSL,
I wish it were painted; it's stained and varnished oak. Time and material? Family, so there's not a cent in my pocket for this one. I'm afraid I may have to carve this one - e'gads!
Thanks,
Jeff
