I have a situation where I should have used sealer to prevent end grain darking but I did not realize it was end grain and now I want to go back and fix the issue. Any suggestions??

Oil, dye or stain? Top coat in place or no?
It is lacquer I used a chemical remover
Scraped it and still can’t get it all out. The result is patchy. I used a Japan color mixed with the lacquer to make it even and now looking for a grain marker to blend it in. Any other tip at this stage would be appreciated.
