I would like to build a custom entry door for my home. Are there previously published articles?
I would like to use cherry as it matches the interior trim and cabinets, but I am concerned about this choice of wood? Also, what is the best finish to use(the door never sees sunshine). I would like to hear any and all suggestions. Thanks

Hi WY,
I found two door articles on our site. Are either of these of use to you?

I think you could make a very handsome entry door from cherry. With proper construction and maintanence the door should look great and last a long time.Just make sure your joinery is sound- Mortise and tenon throughout. I would use a waterproof glue like Titebond two (or three).
For your finish I would do whatever stain (or not) you want and then follow it up with a marine grade spar varnish. As with any exterior finish you will have to maintain the varnish periodically (sand it and recoat when needed).
Good luck
