I am going to build a new front door for my residence, probably out of mahogany. It will have oval and diamond shaped leaded glass inserts. Does anyone out there have any suggestions where I can get some guidance on building such a door? I am an amateur furniture builder with a reasonable degree of experience in woodworking, but have never attempted a door. Are there any troublesome things that I should watch out for? Thanks for any help on this project!!!1

Bill,
If you can find this book, it might be helpful: "Building Doors and Entryways," by Craig Weis; publisher is Sterling. GPW

*Hi Bill,No real info on where to get plans. I found one for a screen door seaching the net. It was an old Popular Mechanics plan...didnt keep the url.I used it just as a kind of reference. It did have suggestions on minumum dimensions for rails and stiles.I made a full view storm door from Mahogany last year. I had never made a door either, just took careful measurements of the opening and went for it.Came out awesome!I used mortise and tenon joinery, each joint pinned with 2 pins just proud of the surface. (Arts & Crafts flavor)Because of the weight of the glass, I did reinforce the corners with a hidden brass L bracket mortised under the the glass.
