I posted a few months back about building some entry doors. Can’t find that post now, but the job is finally happening and I need some advice from the locksmith that posted. I need to know the maximum width on the stiles (on a 2 1/4″ thick) to avoid problems with the lockset hardware. I am also curious about multi point locking hardware for the operable door. It doesn’ t seem like it would provide much added security since the bolts are so short. Anybody used it before? Is it worth the trouble and considerable expense?
Thanks!

We use multipoint hardware (5 point on pairs, 3 point on single) at the customer's request.
It was developed to use with synthetic wood stiles since they have little linear strength. Pinning the door top and bottom is not as much about security as it is about not bowing in with wind pressure. The security is an American marketing addition.
When we make 8' doors, we step up thickness to 2-1/4" or 3" at 10' or more. Since we make doors out of wood, we don't need the multipoint - the conventional English will work fine.
When requested, we use G-U Cremona, and it will add about $350.00 to the base cost of the doors, installed. This is about the same for supply and install of a pair of extension flush bolts, and a bore type latch prep on conventional pairs. Mortise latch prep will add another $187.00, FYI. We don't get any requests for multipoint on single doors.
