I’m in the final stages of building a fairly large sideboard of reclaimed “antique” southern pine. Never again. The wood is so brittle that, even with sharp tools, the wood breaks rather than cuts smoothly. Therefore, the mortises, for example, are fairly rough and oversized.
I’m thinking about using a “no drip epoxy” for gluing the joints. There are no mechanical fasteners in the piece, so pegged joints will be what is holding it together.
I’ve never used epoxy as a wood glue.
Any comments?

Epoxy is superior to wood glue in terms of gap filling ability. So it's recommended but more expensive. Look for one with a long open time, as my experience has shown the longer the open time, the stronger the joint.
PS Your wood sounds as if it may be too dry, hence the brittleness. Infusing the parts in a steambox may help.
